The impact of technology on art

Graphic design, computer-generated paintings, photoshop, digitally created music, e-books, 3D printing - to name but a few!  Technology has undoubtedly affected art across various mediums.

How have these advancements affected the way artists relate to their work?

Undoubtedly, tech has expanded the horizon of creativity.  It has increased accessibility - sharing images, performances, words, and thoughts on a global level has never been easier. 

More than anything, it has changed the way artists are operating. Techniques, such as video software and digital colours are a far cry from the traditional tools of the paintbrush and charcoal.

To maximise the rise of technological advancements, artists must be able to master an enormous array of tools to hone their techniques, so they are able to translate their vision and unleash their creativity effectively.   Their imagination is truly stretched in order to succeed in creating original and innovative ideas. 

Some are concerned that art created digitally is an inauthentic version of the discipline.  Famous paintings are being reproduced and altered by graphic designers and computer hackers at an increasing rate. 

Whilst the huge array of tweaking and fine-tuning options open up limitless horizons for artists to express themselves more creatively and accurately, technology has however arguably dampened the flame of creativity as artists are absorbed in the enormous technological capabilities.

However, some artists, such as David Hockney have harnessed tech to their advantage.  Famous for his beloved oil painting, at the age of 76 years old, David has regained fame using his iPad as a primary tool of creativity.

In summary, tech has undoubtedly changed art and culture as we know it.  Only time will tell how great those changes will be.
